Terms of Service
Plain language. No surprises. Governed by the laws of New Zealand.
The short version: Install and use the app for free. Pay if you want Companion Pro, a Day Pass or an Export Credit. Don't use the app to do illegal things. We can change the app over time. If something breaks, our liability is limited to what you paid us. If you live in a country with stronger consumer protections, those still apply.
1. Who these terms are between
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Autopilot Labs, an independent software studio based in Aotearoa New Zealand ("we", "us", "Autopilot Labs"), which publishes the Your Travel Companion mobile application and operates the website yourtravelcompanion.app (together, the "Service").
By downloading, installing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
Your Travel Companion is an offline-first travel journal, document vault and itinerary application for Android (and, in future, iOS). The free tier provides the core journal, itinerary and vault experience. Optional paid in-app purchases ("IAPs") unlock additional features, described in Section 4.
The Service does not require you to create an account. An anonymous device token is generated on your device on first launch. You may generate a Recovery Phrase (described in our Privacy Policy) to restore access on a new device.
3. Eligibility
The Service is intended for users aged 13 and older (or the higher minimum age in your jurisdiction). By using the Service you represent that you meet this age requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
4. Pricing, in-app purchases and refunds
The following IAPs are offered through Google Play Billing. Prices may vary by country, and Google Play may apply local taxes. The prices below are USD reference prices:
- Companion Pro Yearly — auto-renewing yearly subscription, US$39.99 / year (subject to local tax). Includes unlimited trips and journal entries, all three Studio templates (Editorial, Cinematic, Minimalist), Smart Paste, live flight lookup, priority email support. A free trial may be offered; trial duration is shown in the Play Store at the time of purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew at the displayed price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Companion Pro Lifetime — one-time non-consumable purchase, US$99.00. Includes the same feature set as Companion Pro Yearly but does not expire and is not a subscription. Tied to your Google Play account; restorable on any device signed into the same account. Not auto-renewing. No additional charges.
- Day Pass — one-time consumable, US$0.99. Unlocks 24 hours of unlimited live flight lookups. Does not auto-renew.
- Export Credit — one-time consumable, US$4.99. Unlocks one premium Studio PDF export for users on the free tier.
Managing or cancelling a subscription. Open the Google Play Store app → tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Your Travel Companion → Cancel subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain Pro access until that date.
Refunds. All purchases are processed by Google Play Billing under Google's refund policy. You may request a refund directly from Google Play within 48 hours of purchase. For requests outside that window, email hello@yourtravelcompanion.app with your order number and we will review on a case-by-case basis. If you live in a jurisdiction that grants statutory refund rights stronger than Google's policy (for example, the EU's 14-day cooling-off period), those statutory rights apply and override this clause.
Free trials. If a free trial is offered for Companion Pro, you will not be charged until the trial ends. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. We do not send reminders before trial conversion; please add the renewal date to your calendar if you wish to be reminded.
5. Your content and your data
You retain full ownership of every trip, journal entry, photo, voice memo, vault document and PDF export you create in the Service. We claim no licence over your content other than the strictly limited technical licence needed to operate the Service on your behalf (for example, to store your trip metadata on our infrastructure so that you can access it across reinstalls).
You are responsible for backing up content you wish to preserve. Photos, audio and vault file contents are stored only on your device — if you uninstall the app, wipe your device, or do not save your Recovery Phrase, that data is permanently lost.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service:
- To violate any law, regulation, or third-party right.
- To store, transmit, or generate content that is unlawful, abusive, defamatory, infringing, sexually exploitative, or that endangers minors.
- To attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise discover the source code of the Service (except to the extent applicable law expressly permits this notwithstanding this limitation).
- To probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network, or to breach any security or authentication measure.
- To submit deliberately malformed payloads, automated traffic, or other inputs intended to disrupt the Service.
- To resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or any IAP entitlement.
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for any user who materially breaches this Section.
7. Third-party services
The Service integrates with the following third parties under separate terms: Google Play Billing (payments), Google Gemini (Smart Paste text parsing), AirLabs (flight data lookups), Sentry (opt-in crash diagnostics). Your use of these features is subject to the third party's own terms and privacy policies, summarised in our Privacy Policy.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including the Your Travel Companion name, the Autopilot Labs brand, the visual design, the icon, the cinematic walkthrough video, copy, illustrations, source code, and all related intellectual property, is owned by Autopilot Labs and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Except as expressly granted in these Terms, no licence is granted to you.
You may use Autopilot Labs marks only for honest, descriptive purposes (for example, "I use Your Travel Companion") and not in any way that implies an official endorsement or sponsorship without our prior written consent.
9. Changes to the Service
The Service is independent software, supplied "as-developed". We may add, change, retire or replace features over time. Where a material change reduces a paid entitlement, we will give reasonable notice and, where appropriate, an option to receive a pro-rated refund of any unused subscription period via Google Play.
10. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that flight lookups, parsed bookings, or third-party data are accurate, up to date, or complete. Always verify critical travel information against the airline or hotel of record.
Your Travel Companion is not a substitute for official boarding passes, visa documents, or travel insurance. Carrying digital copies in the Vault is a convenience, not a legal substitute for the originals where originals are required.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Autopilot Labs' total liability to you in connection with the Service (including all causes of action, whether contract, tort, or statutory) is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us through Google Play Billing in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost trips, lost photos, lost memories, missed flights, missed connections, or business interruption.
Nothing in this Section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Consumer rights
If you are a consumer resident in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986 apply to the Service and override any contradictory wording in these Terms.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, mandatory local consumer-protection laws (including the EU 14-day cooling-off right, where applicable) apply and override any contradictory wording in these Terms.
If you are a consumer resident in California or another US state with comparable laws, your statutory consumer protections apply and override any contradictory wording in these Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app. We may terminate or suspend access if you materially breach these Terms. Termination does not entitle you to a refund except where required by law or by Google Play's refund policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) will survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will first be addressed in good faith by direct communication with us at hello@yourtravelcompanion.app. If a dispute cannot be resolved that way, the courts of New Zealand will have non-exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may pursue claims in their country of residence where local law requires it.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updates will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted in-app at next launch. Continued use of the Service after a change indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.
