Google Play requires 12 testers using the app for 14 days before any independent developer can ship to production. The first 12 to install get Companion Pro Lifetime free — applied automatically on first launch. No codes, no forms.
Why we need your help
In late 2023 Google introduced a new policy requiring independent (non-organisational) developer accounts to recruit at least 12 testers who use the app for at least 14 consecutive days before being allowed to ship to the public Play Store. There's no way around it. Your 14 days unlocks a launch that thousands of travellers are waiting for.
How it works
Apply
Tap the "Apply to be a tester" button above. Send us your Google account email (the one you use for Google Play) plus your Android version. Takes 30 seconds.
Receive your invite (within 24 hours)
We add you to the closed testing list inside Google Play Console. You'll get an email with a "Become a tester" link and instructions to opt in via the Play Store.
Install the app
Tap the link, open the Play Store, and tap Install. Your Travel Companion downloads like any other app — but with a "TESTER" badge on the listing.
Use it for 14 days
That's it. Open the app at least a few times a week. Plan a trip, capture a journal entry, try the Vault. Use it however you would naturally use a travel app. If you spot bugs, tap Settings → Send Feedback.
Keep Companion Pro forever
After the 14-day window closes and we ship to production, we manually grant you a lifetime Companion Pro entitlement. No subscriptions, no card details, no expiry. As a tester, you also keep early-access to all future betas.
Frequently asked
Does this cost anything?
No. Closed testing is free. You will not be charged. The "Pro free for life" reward kicks in once we promote to production.
Do I have to write a review?
No — reviews are optional and we never ask testers to leave fake positive reviews. If you want to leave honest feedback in-app, the Settings → Feedback flow goes straight to our inbox.
What if I find a bug?
Wonderful. That is exactly why testing exists. Email hello@yourtravelcompanion.app or use the in-app feedback link. We typically ship a patched build within 48 hours.
iPhone user?
iOS closed testing uses TestFlight and is opening soon — join the iOS waitlist here.
I'm not from a big city / not a "real" Android tester — does that disqualify me?
The opposite. Google requires real users, not professional QA engineers. Travellers, students, parents, retirees, digital nomads — all welcome. The more diverse the better.
Can I leave the program early?
Yes — at any time, in the Play Store listing, tap "Leave the test". No hard feelings. (If everyone leaves before day 14 the launch unfortunately resets, so we'd love a heads-up email.)
